George Washington Carver was a teacher. He taught about plants. He knew about helping plants when they were sick. He was even called the "plant doctor." He was a scientist and inventor. He made 300 things out of peanuts. For example, he made peanut paper and shaving cream out peanuts. George Washington Carver also invented ways to use soybeans and sweet potatoes. He wanted farmers to plant peanuts, soybeans, and sweet potatoes instead of cotton because they help the soil.
Rosa Parks lived during a time of segregation. She refused to give up her seat on a bus when a bus driver told her to. The law said she had to give up her seat to a white man and move to the back of the bus because her skin color was black. She went to jail for a night. Other people like Dr. King thought the law was wrong so they helped Rosa Parks. They had a bus boycott. Instead of riding the bus, African Americans and some others walked where they needed to go. It lasted for over a year. Because of the bus boycott, the law changed so that black people and white people could sit anywhere and be treated equally on the bus.
Both George Washington Carver and Rosa Parks made a difference. Next week, we'll learn about more people who made a difference! We hope you like our blog!
