Hi Firsties!
I hope you are having a great Spring Break! It's been so cold it doesn't even feel like Spring to me! I will see you soon; Monday will be here before we know it. Get ready for a great week--I have some fun things planned! Mrs. H

We had a majestic week! Our new friend Lindsey joined our class. We read our Pigeon stories to Mr. LaFrance. A leprechaun came to visit our class.
We read our Pigeon stories to Mr. LaFrance. He loved our Pigeon stories and he said maybe Mo Willems would publish them. Mrs. H laughed at some of our Pigeon stories because they were funny. We made Pigeon hats to wear when we read our Pigeon stories. Mrs. H is going to mail our stories to Mo Willems this weekend. A leprechaun came to visit our class March 17, St. Patrick's Day. He must have visited our bathroom and forgot the Oakland HOOT Expectation "Flush." The water was green! The leprechaun gave us a pot of gold coins and chocolate. We did a hunt that the leprechaun left for us to find the gold. The last clue said that the real treasure was us! Finn thinks this means that the leprechaun likes us more than gold. Next week we are on Spring Break! Mrs. H might leave a special blog post for us. We'll have to check and see! This week has been outstanding! We made pigeon hats and pots of gold. We started a new topic in math. We finished our assessment books.
We made pigeon hats and pots of gold. We made pigeon hats for a picture that we will send to Mo Willems. We will wear our pigeon hats when we read our pigeon stories to Mr. LaFrance. We made pots of gold yesterday. We used a rainbow color for the chain. The teachers used yellow chalk to write our names. We made them because St. Patrick's Day is next Tuesday. Mrs. H hung the pots of gold above the teacher table in our classroom. We started a new topic in math. The topic is called Adding With Tens and Ones. We've only added with tens so far. We know if we add tens we should think of the numbers in the tens place and add them. If we have 20 + 10 we can say 2 + 1 = 3, so 20 + 10 = 30. We can also use base ten blocks to add tens. We can also look at the hundreds chart. We are learning to picture the hundreds chart in our brain. This is called mental math. We finished our assessment books. They are blue books. We didn't have to do all of the pages. We are glad that we finished our assessment books. Now Mrs. H can put the grades on our report cards. We will work in our assessment books one more time in May. Next week will be a fun week. We will welcome a new friend to our class and it is Spirit Week. Mrs. H is sending home a note about Spirit Week today! This has been a terrific week! We learned about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. We're back to working in our blue books. We are learning about Dr. Seuss and the stories he wrote.
We learned about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln was the tallest President and George Washington was the first President. Abraham Lincoln was the sixteenth president and he had a beard. George Washington measured the land and made maps before he became President. That's what we learned about some of our Presidents. We're back to working in our blue books. Our blue books are assessment books. They check what we know about math and reading. Our answers help Mrs. Heinonen fill out our report cards. We work very hard in our blue books. We are learning about Dr. Seuss and the stories he wrote. Dr. Seuss wrote a lot of books. One of his most famous books is The Cat in the Hat. One of his books is Yertle the Turtle. Before Dr. Seuss named himself Dr. Seuss his name was Theodor Seuss Geisel. Dr. Seuss wrote his books using rhyming words. He also wrote tongue twisters. For example, one of the books that used tongue twisters was Fox in Socks. We've had epic fun learning about Dr. Seuss. This week was fantastic--we even got to celebrate Kennedy's birthday--and next week will be brilliant. |
