Here are some things we've learned about vibration and sound. For something to make a sound, it vibrates. When something vibrates, it makes a sound.
We used rulers to learn about sound. We put the ruler on a table and hit it to make it sound bouncy. We made it vibrate. We used our bodies to learn about sound. We stomped our feet and clapped our hands to make it sound like thunder. We felt vibrations in our throats when we talked. We put a balloon on top of a speaker and put salt on top of the balloon to learn about sound. The salt bounced when the song was going. The vibration of the sound from the song made it bounce. We used a drum to learn about sound. The balloon was moving on the drum when we hit the drum. The vibrations of the drum made it move. We watched a Brainpop Jr. movie about sound, too. We made a map after the movie to show what we learned. Vibrations and sounds are amazing! And for my sweet first graders who have NEVER heard this song, here is the "C is for Cookie" song!
