Mrs. Heinonen
We had a very busy afternoon today! During our Project Based Learning Social Studies time, we tried to film our skits about Rosa Parks and Ruby Bridges. We had a lot of technical difficulties, but finally were able to film our skits. It took a long time though, so students were unable to write a blog at school like they normally do. I told them that I would write a post for them instead, and share the link to the videos we created today. Enjoy watching our skits! Have a great weekend!

It's been a busy week! We've worked on our pigeon stories. We learned about Ruby Bridges. We celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday. We even had a Hat Day!
We worked on our pigeon stories. We've read Mo Willems' books and some of them are pigeon stories. This inspired us to try to write a pigeon story of our own. This week we worked on story maps. We also learned how to draw the pigeon. We even tried to draw the pigeon flipping out! Next week, we will make our books! We learned about Ruby Bridges. She made a difference when she was only six years old. She was the first African American kid to go to a certain school. There were white people who were being mean to her but she was calm and had courage. Some of the people called her names and said "We don't want you in our school." All of the parents told their kids that they couldn't go to the school because there was a black girl there. After many months, two white boys came back to the school. Then, the other children started to come back. Below are pictures of us working in groups to write and illustrate skits about Ruby Bridges. We celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday! Dr. Seuss' birthday is on March 2nd. This is also Read Across America Day. Dr. Seuss' real name is Theodor Seuss Geisel. When he was in college, he didn't follow one of the school rules, so he wasn't allowed to write for the magazine. That's when he started signing his name as Seuss. On Dr. Seuss' birthday Mrs. H made green eggs using a pretzels, white chocolate, and green m&ms. On Dr. Seuss' birthday, we listened to Mrs. Lindeman read one of Dr. Seuss' books by the fireplace called Try to Remember the First of Octember. We even had a Hat Day this week! Everyone was allowed to wear a hat to school today, but you could not wear a winter hat. We had some funny hats and normal hats and ball caps. We even had a friend wear a tiara! We got to have Hat Day because we filled our jewel jar! We are trying to fill it up again. Below is a picture of us wearing our hats! That was our week! |
